How to use a splash of colour to brighten a kitchen in neutral shades

3RD OCTOBER 2011

Neutral colours or wood finishes are favourite options for a classic kitchen that won’t go out of fashion soon. But what if you want to inject some colour to your kitchen, too?

Perhaps you could have your range cooker in a bright colour.  Or why not opt for just a few accessories in a vibrant colour?

The London kitchen pictured above is from the Shaker range of kitchen manufacturer Harvey Jones. The cabinets are hand painted in “Night Jewels 2” – a neutral rich colour from Dulux. The stainless steel L Line range cooker combines well with the neutral shade of the cabinet doors and the “Glacier White” of the Corian work surface.

A red glass splash back was installed to inject some colour and matching accessories were placed on the work surface. Red is an intense colour that goes well with grey tones. Be careful not to add too much red to your kitchen – it can be overpowering. Small touches of red can be effective as shown in this kitchen - the red colour adds a nice touch of warmth.
