A black range cooker in an oak Shaker kitchen [kitchen case study]

27TH APRIL 2012
The combination of a black range cooker, natural wood finish and a Shaker style kitchen might evoke an image of something rather dark and traditional.

This oak Shaker kitchen, however, looks light and contemporary.

The Harvey Jones kitchen is fitted in a client’s house in Carshalton and was designed to complement their open plan room. Speaking about the challenges faced in creating the kitchen, David Grenham, of Harvey Jones, said: “Our customers were keen to have a lot of working space for preparing food and also an area for the children to sit. That's why an island was included - it offers space for seating and also has storage built-in.”

The 100cm Sigma range cooker in gloss black complements the black graphite work surfaces. The pale glass splashback matches the glass Spiritoso cooker hood.

David commented on the choice of range cooker: “Our client really liked the clean, modern take on the traditional range cooker. It also offers more functionality than a traditional range and the size fitted perfectly.”
