Can I use a round bottomed wok on my Britannia gas hob?

Flat bottomed woks will sit quite happily on the wok burner, but traditional round bottomed woks or balti pans may need some extra support. Wok supports are available from our Spares Department on 01253 471130 Opt 4.

What type of saucepans should I use on my Britannia ceramic hob?

For the most efficient cooking, the base of the pan should be totally flat, so it makes good contact with the hob. To avoid damage to the hob surface, ensure that the base of the pan is smooth. If you are purchasing new pans to use with your new Britannia hob, choose the best you can afford -preferably stainless steel with encapsulated alloy bases for the best conduction of heat. These should last you a lifetime of cooking.

Why does my ceramic hob turn itself off and on during cooking?

This is perfectly normal. Each of the thermostatically controlled zones has a sensor which allows the zone to pulse during the cooking process, which prevents the hob from overheating.

Also, unsuitable pans can cause the safety cut-out to operate and lead to less efficient cooking. A pan that is too small wastes heat and can boil over. For most effective cooking the base of the pan should be the same size or slightly larger than the zone area.

What size turkey will fit in my main oven?

There is room for a 20lb (9kg) turkey in the 60cm oven. This size is sufficient for 10 to 12 people.
