Tips for oven cooking

Kebabs on a griddleDid you know that it is much quicker and more economical to use the main oven for everyday cooking time, even for a quick snack? The Quickstart function will preheat the oven to 200°C in only 6 minutes. This is up to three times quicker than the smaller oven in 90cm and 100cm twin models.

Experiment! Don't forget a Britannia range cooker has 9 different oven cooking functions. Try the 'Fan Assisted' function when roasting potatoes or meat for an extra crisp result.

Going out for the day? Pop a casserole or slow roast in the oven on the 'Bottom Heat' function at 130°C. Not sure when you will be back? Use the automatic programmer standard on all Britannia range cookers to start or finish the cooking for you.

For the perfect lasagne (or any dishes that require reheating and browning), use the Britannia 'Top Heat' function. It's gentler than grilling and gives more browning ability allowing the dish to heat through and gently brown at the same time.

The Britannia rotisserie will cook a perfect succulent chicken much quicker than traditional roasting. The chicken self-bastes whilst turning under the grill element, retaining all the meat juices. A 1.5 kg chicken will cook in one hour. Fill the chicken cavity with herbs or spices for even more flavours. Just see how clean the oven stays!

Many people are tempted to line baking dishes, oven shelves or the grill pan with foil. However, many foil wraps contain plastic and can damage enamel surfaces. It can also reflect heat onto the elements of the cooker and reduce their life span. To reduce washing up, you can invest in non-stick Bake-O-Glide® liners as used by many chefs.

Tips for cooking on the hob

For economical fuel consumption, always use a lid when cooking on the hob. Also, select the correct sized burner or cooking zone to suit the pan diameter.

The Britannia Chef Top is ideal for cooking everything from breakfast foods through to stir fries and a perfect fillet steak. Always preheat the Chef Top before adding any oil. For best results choose a rape seed or sunflower oil (add to unsalted butter if required). Virgin olive oil and salted butter burn more easily and are therefore not ideal.
