How do ceramic hobs work?
Ceramic hobs work using efficient elements underneath the toughened glass. The control knob for each zone regulates the amount of heat and the zone glows red - on and off according to the heat setting. The heat is distributed evenly across the cooking zone and can be regulated.
Britannia ceramic hobs
Britannia ceramic hobs offer different zone sizes to fit most pan sizes and shapes so to avoid the pan being too small or large for the zone. These include 'dual zones' where there is an inner element for small pans and an inner plus outer element for larger pans. Something different is an 'oval' zone ideal for oval pans, casseroles and fish kettles. The zones vary from 750w – 2400w - not only can you have a choice of the power ratings but also a choice of zone shapes and sizes - allowing a sauce to simmer or a fast pan of water to boil.
All pans are suitable for cooking on ceramic with the exception of copper or aluminium based. Pans need to be flat and smooth so the pan can be heated up quickly and evenly. Woks need to be flat bottomed with a round base - choose the right size zone for the wok base to avoid overheating the wok sides.
Safety
Once a zone has been switched off a residual heat setting located at the front of the hob will flash 'H' until the zone is cool enough to touch. Also, all elements feature a control to prevent overheating, perfect for peace of mind when the kids are helping out in the kitchen.
Cleaning a ceramic hob
Cleaning a flat glass surface is very easy as each range cooker is supplied with a hob scraper for scraping off any residue when the zone has cooled down. All that is needed is a soft sponge, washing up liquid and a tea towel. Then a small amount of hob cleaner should be used to condition the hob and make it shiny. Should any jam or sugar spill on to the hob it is best to scrape it off immediately using the scraper.
